Sansei Seafood Steak & Sushi Bar in Waikoloa Village offers a polished sit-down dining experience that blends Japanese and broader Asian flavors with a strong emphasis on fresh island seafood and premium steaks. Set just off the main resort strip, it's a spot where locals and visitors alike come to enjoy a break from the usual hotel fare without straying too far from the sunny Waikoloa vibe.

The atmosphere leans toward casual elegance — comfortable but with attention to detail in presentation and service. While the dining room often fills up, especially during evenings, the buzz reflects a mix of families, couples, and groups celebrating something special or just indulging in a more refined meal. Reservations are a practical must here, as the place draws steady crowds looking to sample its distinctive Hawaiian spin on Japanese cuisine.

Seafood highlights are true to the island’s bounty, with local ahi tuna featuring prominently, often served fresh and simply to showcase its quality. Those inclined toward heartier fare will find well-executed steaks, including options like bone-in ribeyes and porcini mushroom-crusted tenderloin, which come accompanied by thoughtful sides such as garlic mashed potatoes and seasonal mushrooms. The kitchen also offers late-night tempura and noodle dishes, catering to both those staying out late and anyone wanting a lighter finish.

Service can vary during peak hours – some guests find it attentive and knowledgeable, especially with the specials, while others have experienced slow moments when the dining room is most crowded. This inconsistency is balanced by staff efforts to maintain a welcoming environment amid busy shifts.

For visitors, Sansei is best suited to those looking for a well-rounded, flavor-forward meal beyond simple sushi rolls — the fusion of fresh seafood and steak options makes it a destination for varied palates. Early evening visits are generally quieter, offering a smoother pace to enjoy the food and island-setting ambiance without rushing.

Great place to get out of the resorts and have an excellent culinary experience. Had the Hawaiian Ahi. Sauce made me die and go to heaven. Fish was fresh as it is in the rest of the island. My wife had the seafood pasta which was also amazing. A little expensive, but it’s in a resort area, so expected. Great staff as well!

The sushi here is alright. Not the best, not the worst. The 69 roll and the Sansei roll were definitely tasty. The drinks were yummy. Desserts were so-so and IMO not worth it. Service is somewhat slow, not because the staff aren't trying, but they're always packed and overwhelmed. I highly recommend making a reservation or you may be waiting a long time for a table. For value, I'd give this 3/5 stars. It's expensive for the quality of the sushi, but given that it's one of the only sushi places in this area you have limited options (unless you want to drive into Kona).

I recently dined at Sansei and had an exceptional experience! The highlight of my meal was the perfectly cooked steak, which was tender, juicy, and full of flavor. The presentation was elegant, and the ambiance of the restaurant added to the overall dining pleasure. The service was top-notch, with attentive staff who made sure every detail was perfect. If you're looking for a fine dining experience with outstanding food, Sansei is the place to go. Highly recommended!

Reservation at 5pm. Superb service by local lady that knows the specials menu by heart. Excellent high maka maka mule. We ordered too much good food ( see pictures ) Great for Waikoloa cuisine

Food was good. We loved the ramen and the salmon. However, the service was bad we sat there for over 25 minutes and nobody even came over to ask us about if we wanted water and the server come back again in another 10 minutes and told us the food we wanted to order was out. Another complained about the Ramen was that the noodle seems to be sat in the bowl for too long, and became a pancake l.
